How To Publish and Market Your Art

How To Publish and Market Your Art

Here are some great resources to assist you in getting your art out there into the world.

STEP ONE:

First I recommend picking up these books by Renee Phillips.  She is a mentor of mine who I met when I first moved to NYC.  Following her guidance in these books you’ll be able to quickly get your Artist Profile set up and have a foundation upon which to build your Art Career.  You will use these tools and guidelines to give structure to the presentation of your artwork.  You will use all of this to monetize your work when you set up your website marketplace in the next step.

I also suggest entering as many art contests as you can.  She has national and international contests on a regular basis through her organization called Manhattan Arts International.

STEP TWO:

Sell your originals and/or copies of your artwork.  I recommend setting up your online gallery here.

Artist Websites

It is a great place to present and sell your works.  It is very reasonably priced  and their marketing tools are excellent.  This will assist you in organizing your works and give you a platform to sell it on.  They handle all aspects of fulfillment and you simply get paid whatever amount you choose for each one of your pieces.  You set the prices and your profit margin.  I use this service and love it.  This is exactly the area where most artists could use some help.  I recommend starting out with the paid version (a mere $30/year at the time of this writing) so you can take advantage of all the features and be able to build a nice gallery website for yourself.  The beauty is that almost everything is done automatically for you.  You simply add in the information about your work and upload your images and everything else takes care of itself.  They even promote your work within their network and through their daily traffic to the main site.  Your artwork reproductions can be done in various forms including: Canvas Print, Framed Print, Standard Print, Metal Print, Acrylic Print, and Greeting Cards.  All of this is taken care of for you.
